De Waylon competed in News Writing, Headline Writing, and Feature Writing after advancing through both District and Regional competition earlier this spring. Simply qualifying for the UIL State Meet is an incredible accomplishment. Finishing in the top six in the entire state makes this achievement even more special.
According to UIL participation statistics, only approximately 1.5% of UIL contestants across Texas advance to the State Championships each year. Only about 0.6% ultimately place in the top six at the state meet. What makes this accomplishment even more meaningful is that De' Waylon was one of the original members of the Leverett’s Chapel Journalism Team when the program began just three years ago. Since that time, he has consistently represented our school at a high level. He has also helped build the foundation for a growing and successful program.
Mrs. Amaya shared the following about De Waylon and his accomplishment:
“Watching him develop from one of our very first competitors into a state medalist has been incredibly rewarding. He helped build this program from the ground up, and this achievement reflects three years of hard work and commitment.”
Congratulations to De Waylon Brown, Mrs. Amaya, and our entire Journalism program on this tremendous accomplishment. We are proud of the way they continue to represent Leverett’s Chapel ISD with excellence, pride, and professionalism.
Go Lions!
