Brenda Smith

LC Community-

Last year, we recognized Mrs. Brenda Smith for 40 years of service to Leverett’s Chapel ISD. As I looked through her service record, I honestly could not believe all of the different roles she has filled over the years. Her career truly represents what small school education is all about: doing whatever is needed for students and for the school community.

Since 1985, Mrs. Smith has served LCISD in nearly every capacity imaginable. Over the years, she has taught Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 5th Grade Math, Junior High Math, Science and Reading, High School classes, ESL, and P.E. for grades K-6. She has also served as an aide, cafeteria worker, and bus driver. Wherever there was a need, Mrs. Smith stepped in without hesitation. That level of commitment and loyalty is rare.

I will also admit something personal. When I first became the elementary principal, I was honestly intimidated by Mrs. Smith. She had been at LC for so many years, knew everybody, and understood every part of the school. I assumed she would be tough on me. Instead, I quickly discovered she was one of the sweetest and most caring people I had ever worked with. She has always had a heart for students and a genuine love for Leverett’s Chapel.

If you know Mrs. Smith, you also know she does not enjoy attention or recognition. In fact, she probably wishes I was not making this post at all. However, after 41 years of service, she deserves every bit of appreciation we can give her. While she is retiring from full-time work, we are extremely thankful that she will continue serving LCISD in a part-time role as our ESL Coordinator. That is a blessing for our students and staff.

Mrs. Smith, thank you for 41 incredible years of service, dedication, and love for LCISD. Your impact on generations of students, families, and coworkers will always be part of the story of Leverett’s Chapel ISD.

Please take a moment to leave a comment and share your favorite memory of Mrs. Smith as a teacher, coworker, mentor, or friend. I know there are many special stories to tell.
